WHERE DO MY DONATIONS GO?

All donations go into the trust fund of the Massey University Foundation. Because the Foundation is a separate legal entity, all donations are held externally from the university.

WHO MANAGES THE DSG DONATIONS?

The Massey University Foundation manages donations to the university. The Foundation is a trust that is separate from the university and is a registered charity in New Zealand.

The trust manages, invests and administrates gifts to the university. It is governed by a board of trustees who report to the Massey Council and provide audited accounts in an annual report.

WHAT WILL MY DONATIONS BE SPENT ON?

That’s entirely up to you. You can choose which fund to donate to, depending on your interests. 100% of staff donations reach the Massey University Foundation; there is no hidden ‘fee’ taken from the gifts donated.

There are over 20 funds to choose from that you can give your fortnightly gift to.

You can take a look at our funds here.

HOW ARE THE DONATIONS INVESTED?

Gifts to the university are either invested in the Foundation’s endowment fund or held as cash investments. At the end of 2019, the Foundation’s total equity was $47.6 million.

The Foundation’s endowment fund is made up of around 150 separately identified scholarship and research funds. These funds are pooled and invested by an approved fund manager in a conservative mix of cash, fixed interest, bonds and equities. The income from the investment is returned to each individual fund so that they maintain their real value, and the rest is distributed to spend on the fund’s intended purpose.

HOW DO I KNOW MY DONATION WILL BE USED RESPONSIBLY?

We have a code of conduct for benefactors that ensures your donation is used responsibly and invested wisely to give maximum benefit to Massey.

Read the code of conduct for benefactors.

WHY SHOULD I GIVE MONEY TO MASSEY UNIVERSITY?

There are many good reasons to give money to Massey University, click on the link below to read about them.

Find out more about why giving to Massey is a great idea.

WHO CAN GIVE TO MASSEY?

Anyone can give to Massey.

Most of our donors are alumni or staff. However, even if you’re not an alumnus or staff member, you can give to Massey University. Whatever your area of interest, it's highly likely it's being taught, practised or researched somewhere at Massey. Or you can choose to help students in any discipline who don’t have the financial means to come here.

WHAT CAN I GIVE TO?

You can give to any of the 20+ funds in the Foundation, depending on what you are passionate about and where you want to make a difference at Massey. Some of our most popular DSG funds are:

The Enabling Excellence Fund

This provides grants and scholarships to students in hardship. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to those students who would otherwise be unable to afford university study.

Refectory Restoration Fund

The Refectory building, opened in 1931, was the second building on Massey’s Manawatu campus. The $5.3 million restoration project will restore the building to its former glory as the heart of the campus, including refurbishing the original student dining hall and student common room to become a sophisticated space to be used by the university and public alike.

Massey University Advancement Fund

This is an unrestricted fund that is endowed and the proceeds used on priority projects at Massey. The Foundation board decides on what the fund should be spent on, with a focus on ensuring that teaching, research and learning at Massey remains first class.

College/Office Funds

Gifts to college-specific funds are used at the discretion of the College Pro-Vice Chancellor (with approval from the Foundation board) for the development and advancement of the College/Office. Each College/Office has their own fund that you can donate to, including the Massey Business School, College of Creative Arts, College of Health, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Sciences, and the Office of Maori and Pasifika.

Take a look at the other funds you can give to here.

HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I GIVE?

That decision is entirely up to you. Any donation you make will be valued and appreciated, and will make a tangible difference to Massey’s work.

Remember, the University match-funds all DSG donations so whatever you donate will be doubled before it reaches us here at the Foundation. And you will receive an immediate 33.33% tax rebate on your donation, so a gift of $10 will only cost $6.67 out of your salary.

CAN I CHOOSE TO PAUSE OR STOP MY DSG DONATIONS?

Of course. The decision to donate is entirely voluntary and all donations are treated as confidential. You can stop or change your donation at any time by contacting us.

HOW MANY STAFF MEMBERS ALREADY GIVE THROUGH DSG?

We currently have over 104 Massey staff members donating through DSG. These fortnightly gifts go to 17 separate funds held within the Foundation. Together, that’s over $90,000 a year raised to support important initiatives at Massey.
