For a Better World

The world is currently facing enormous challenges. Climate change has brought droughts, floods, and food shortages.  War and pandemics have impacted global economies and human health on a scale not seen before. How can Massey University contribute more leadership, skilled graduates, research, and discovery that will help solve some of these urgent challenges.

Massey University has launched the For a Better World Campaign to help pioneer solutions for a brighter future for all.

The “For a Better World” Campaign has a goal of building Massey’s endowment fund to $100 million by December 2027, to mark its 100th anniversary. The funds will be used to strengthen Massey’s academic offering in key subject areas and to provide much needed scholarship. The campaign is calling on alumni, staff, friends and supporters to invest in three initiatives to help Massey to prepare for the next century and impact on major global challenges.

Massey University started life as an agricultural college in 1927. It grew rapidly and developed a stellar reputation for being entrepreneurial and responsive, for having  outstanding expertise in the primary sector, and for producing work-ready graduates and industry-led research.  It became a leader in New Zealand’s food and fibre sector and since then it has continuously provided ground-breaking research and outstanding alumni who have profoundly shaped New Zealand and its economy.

Massey will build on the world-leading expertise that it already has in the food and fibre, design, environment and health sectors.

By bolstering its existing strengths in agriculture, horticulture, food technology, veterinary science, animal health and welfare, sustainability, and in the environmental and health sciences, Massey aims to support New Zealand with leadership, highly skilled graduates and impactful, industry-driven research.

By strengthening these core areas Massey will continue its world-leading work to solve some of the most compelling issues of our time. Issues like sustainable food production, food safety and security, water quality, alternative energy, reducing dependency on pesticides and herbicides, flood mitigation, caring for an aging population, the health of our people, environment, and planet. No organisation is better positioned to address these issues than Massey University.
