Te Waimana o Turitea

Target: $12 million to complete stage one of a research-led environmental and educational park

Te Waimana o Turitea will be a research-led environmental and educational park built along the banks of the Turitea Stream. A first of its  kind in the world, Te Waimana o Turitea will provide a literal pathway for potential students into Massey and an educational park that will showcase Massey’s environmental, soil and plant sciences to the local community and to wider New Zealand.

In celebration of its 100th birthday the university has announced that it has reserved the land along the banks of the Turitea Stream in perpetuity for a public research space that will support the financial and physical health of the university and the community.

Working closely with mana whenua, the health and ecology of the Turitea Stream will be enhanced. Research gardens within the space will engage young students/rangatahi and encourage them into higher education.

Massey is proposing that the first stage of this environmental domain should be a centenary “garden” to celebrate the university’s first 100 years. It will cost $10 million to landscape, establish raised pathways, create teaching platforms and to plant the area. The Foundation must fundraise and endow a further $2 million to maintain the area in perpetuity. Help us build this unique public asset and educational and research garden.
